Hey howdy Austin Smith
Welcome to my digital corner. I’m a data engineer, Linux tinkerer, and chronic over-builder of things that probably didn’t need to exist.
Who Am I?
My name is Austin. I’m a data analyst. I’ve been a CIO, CTO, application developer, helpdesk technician, student teacher and ran a computer lab for an elementary school.
When I’m not at a keyboard for work, I’m usually at a keyboard at my house.
What I Do
- Data Engineering — Building pipelines with DuckDB, dbt, Dagster, Observable Framework, Medallion architecture, the works.
- Infrastructure — Self-hosted Kubernetes (k3s + ArgoCD), Proxmox, GitOps all the way down. I run my own everything and am always rebuilding it.
- Web Development — Astro, React, TypeScript. This site is built with Astro and I genuinely enjoy it. I’ve dabbled in Flask, Django, Svelte, really anything that lets you put text on the internet.
- Open Source — Most of what I build ends up on GitHub. Some of it is even documented. Lots of historical purges.
This Blog
This is where I write about what I’m building, what I’m learning, and the occasional rabbit hole I probably shouldn’t have gone down at 11 PM. Expect posts about data engineering, Linux, infrastructure, and whatever I’ve been hyperfixating on lately.
If you’d like to connect, find me on GitHub or LinkedIn. Always happy to talk shop.
